First published in The Manhattan Mercury, October 27, 2006. Strawn offers right approach to aid for senior citizens, wagesTo the Editor: Bob Strawn showed at the League of Women Voters debate why he is the best candidate on every issue for the 66th District. During the debate, his approach to three critical issues showed why he has been so successful in business and why he'll bring those same skills, which his opponent lacks, to the table. Bob is opposed to having governments set minimum wages. History has shown them to be a disaster as in Western Europe, yet socialistic thinking, mostly by academics, regards then as necessary in Kansas. Because of the Republican tax cuts, the economy is one of the best ever and unemployment is technically considered non-existent. Because of these economic conditions, many wages at entry-level positions are above what liberals are wanting minimum wage to be set at. This is the proper way to solve this problem. Get government out of the way and let the free market system bring about real solutions. Strawn will fight for senior citizens and ask for limits on property taxes for those struggling to make ends meet so that they will have more income for daily necessities. Higher taxes are no way to treat our seniors, who broke their backs laying the foundation for this community that we now enjoy. Bob won't take the easy way out and vote for more casinos to solve any state tax shortfalls. Bob will take Kansas into a leadership role in developing and creating biomass research and production facilities, thereby creating real jobs, helping farmers and bringing millions of dollars of taxable revenue to the state. This election is too important to be a popularity contest. We need to vote for the best person for the job, and Bob Strawn is that person. Real solutions for real problems. John C. White Jr. |
