Former mayor backs Strawn

To the Editor:

As former mayor of Manhattan, I urge my fellow citizens to vote for Bob Strawn as city commissioner. Why? Because Bob wants Manhattan to be progressive but also affordable for both young and old.

Bob's idea of merging services provided now by both the city and county makes sense to me. A great example is our own Riley County Police Department - a merged agency that brings topnotch policing to both the city and county at a savings.

Today in Topeka, their city and county officials are planning to combine their information systems departments. They project $1 million per year in savings to the taxpayers. Similarly, Bob wants us to look at all aspects of local government.

We have many citizens at the university, in county and city government, and private life who believe its high-time we at least take a look at what is the right government structure for the 21st Century.

Bob Strawn will ask the question.

In closing, if Bob is not elected, I am convinced our community will be one that few can afford to call home. Vote Bob Strawn April 3rd.
