First published in The Manhattan Mercury Strawn cares about the peopleTo the Editor: If you care about what happens in the Manhattan community, you should research all of the candidates for City Commission before placing your votes on April 3rd. Bob Strawn is a respected businessman in the community, as well as a husband, father and grandfather. He cares about the people of Manhattan and will speak one-on-one with the general public who have questions or concerns. Taxes are always a concern and the rise in property taxes for Manhattan property owners can be devastating to all, but especially those on fixed incomes. Bob Strawn is truly concerned about taxes, jobs and the economy. He listens to the concerns of others and is honest about his views on the issues at hand. As far as the candidates who ran for City Commission two years ago and are up for re-election, please review their previous "campaign promises" and compare to the actions they have taken since being elected. The Manhattan Mercury ran an article on April 20, 2005 titled Commission ch-ch-ch-changes which stated: "New city commissioners say their election will mean a kinder, gentler - and perhaps more liberal - City Commission. Tom Phillips and Jayme Morris- Hardeman - who officially joined the Commission Tuesday - said there will be less micromanaging of city matters and that speaking to the Commission won't be as daunting a task as it has been the last few years. Morris-Hardeman said the public can also expect a shift to the left politically..." Remember, it is your right to vote, but please make your vote count. Matthew and Susan Schindler 923 Humboldt St. |
