Strawn will support steps to limit influx of illegal aliens into Kansas

To the Editor:

Before the election rhetoric becomes too inflamed, I would like to offer a few comments on behalf of my friend and neighbor, Bob Strawn, the Republican candidate for state representative for the 66th District.

In discussions with Bob, I was pleased to learn that he views the illegal alien problem much as I do. Please note I did not say illegal immigrant. Such individuals are much more than immigrants. And the adjective "illegal" seems to be lost on many of our lawmakers. At any rate, a major concern facing most all states just now is how to deal with this problem. Before the niceties involving existing illegal aliens and their ultimate status can be handled, we need to stop the flow of additional illegal aliens.

Giving them preferred status in our state universities not only is an encouragement for more to illegally cross our borders, but it also is a reward for doing so. Bob Strawn supports getting control of our borders as a major first step toward obtaining a handle on this problem. Second, Bob has a businessman's understanding of the economic impact on an area - both positive and negative - of government actions. The Big Red One is the driving force of economic activity for Riley and Geary counties and will remain so for some time. As a businessman and a Vietnam veteran, Bob understands both sides of the question. He knows what actions make good economic sense from a commercial and a tax-generation standpoint as well as the potential impact or ramifications from a military or military dependent standpoint.

At this stage in our development I am convinced that Bob Strawn is the better candidate and the person to represent us and all Kansans. I hope you will give him your vote.
